Palin on Global Warming
Submitted by knittingliberal on Tue, 09/30/2008 - 10:43pm.
Everyone else is talking about the Biden comment, her gay friend, or Palin's inability to name even ONE news source she reads, but I heard something else in here...
I am no scientist, but if there is one thing I know about climate change, it is that WHAT IS CAUSING IT REALLY MATTERS. It is not a "well, the damage is done" or "don't cry over spilt milk" kind of thing. The only way to do something about it, which Palin claims she wants to do in this interview, is to stop causing it.
NOTE: I strongly disagree with the punctuation in the CBS' transcript. This is a perfect example of how punctuation can be everything. Watch the clip and tell me what you think.
In case you missed it

If Democrats were Republicans

OK, so I'm a little slow, these have been out for a week to a month, but they are just what I need right now, so I thought I'd share.... 23/6 has this series of attack ads they'd like to see - hilarious!

No wonder McCain likes to talk about lipstick so much
Submitted by knittingliberal on Thu, 09/25/2008 - 2:48pm.
McCain spent $5,583.43 to have his makeup done for a TV appearance.
Who is he? Jennifer Lopez? Only celebrities pay that kind of dough for makeup application. When we are in a financial crisis and people are being foreclosed on, doesn't that seem wasteful.
And, frankly, she's not doing such a hot job. He still looks crepey and creepy to me.
At least you don't wash off a haircut at the end of the day. Jackass.

Mama's Votin' for Obama

I'm cross posting this because I love it and, just to tie everything together, I taught his daugter to knit.

Yup, I just wrote that but I can't take credit. Campbell Brown is pioneering the movement.

Eco-Knitting
Submitted by spoons on Mon, 09/15/2008 - 9:44pm.
Want to combine your liberal tree-hugging with your knitting? Shannon Okey says you can. Her new book is a guide to using alternative fibers:
From the book description:
From the seaweed-derived Seacell yarn, which transmits vitamins and
nutrients to the skin when worn, to soy-based yarns made from tofu
manufacturing waste, alternative fibers are readily available, easy to
care for, and good for the environment. And because these fibers work
up, drape, and wear like no other yarns, Okey teaches crafters of all
skill levels about each fiber's properties, how to incorporate them
into existing patterns, and how to hand-dye them. Knitting green has
never been so easy.
I haven't read this book cover to cover yet. Does anyone know if the yarns featured are sustainably produced in addition to being sustainable fibers?
Also in the green-crafting vein, I recently heard about a blog authored by a group of craft-blogging friends. And, since I obviously love a good group blog, I thought I'd pass it along. Sew Green is concerned with consumerism, activism and other ways to be crafty for good. Go check it out!

Sarah Haskins takes on Sarah Palin
Submitted by zizabean on Fri, 09/05/2008 - 12:32pm.
Sarah Haskins' latest video targets Sarah Palin, and also notes the right's sudden onset faux feminism. Wtf is up with that? Thanks but no thanks, Mitt & Rudy! We'll take it from here.

Throwing Stones from Glass Churches
Submitted by knittingliberal on Thu, 09/04/2008 - 10:08am.
There are countless things I could write about today, but I am choosing one.
You can try and use "community organizer" as a slur, but the American people (not the foaming masses at the RNC) are smart enough to realize that you are trying to mock the same thing you are trying to jam down our throats with your "faith-based initiatives." And, I will point out what I know they already know: Obama's community organizing was faith-based.
Now, I have my own feelings and concerns about "faith-based" initiatives. Like how they are kinda unconstitutional. But, you know who doesn't have a problem with them, and for all the talk about how evil government spending is, loves to snatch any federal money they can for it?
Yup. John S. McCain and Sarah Palin. And you can bet that if either of them had done any of it, they would put it front and center.
Don't take it from me. How about hearing it from their own campaign's July 2, 2008 press release?
John McCain supports faith based initiatives, and recognizes their important role in our communities. He has co-sponsored legislation to foster improved partnerships with community organizations, including faith-based organizations...
Can someone explain to me why being on the PTA of a tiny school district is great to tout, but community organizing is demeaning?
One other thing, you need to go back 20 years to get to the community organizing in Obama's career. You only have to go back 22 months to get to Wasilla.
Do you think those Wasillians know how funny they are?
